Weekly Happenings - 6/29 - 7/5

1.  Last week, Peyton went on a field trip to the blueberry patch and picked lots of yummy fresh blueberries!  I asked her what she wanted to do with them and she told me she wanted to make a blueberry pie.  Well, it has been years since I have participated in making a pie and I had never made one completely on my own so I asked Grammy for some advice on the insides and pulled out my recipe from Grandma Mintun / Grammy for my pie crust and went to work.  I must say, it turned out beautifully and tasted great too!!

2.  On Wednesday, Grammy came to the city for a Dr. appointment so she swung by and picked up the kids at school before heading to their house to get ready for Old Glory Days weekend!  Chad & I were able to join the fun Thursday afternoon.  I picked a few of my favorite pictures but there were many more from the fun several days!  We had a ton of fun and beautiful weather for July especially!  At the sponsor's dinner on Thursday we had a one-on-one interaction with the Fishin' Magician.  He was GREAT and the kids thought his tricks were amazing (they really were!).  Then it was off to the carnival for lots of rides.  Garrison's favorite was the dragon roller coaster - Peyton's was the Spider ( a ride that she couldn't get enough of but put me on the sidelines after riding it with her it made me so sick.  Chad, however, survived and even rode it with her a 2nd time - he's brave!).  Peyton & Garrison also both rode the mechanical bull and took pony rides.  Earlier in the day we also got to watch some animal races and saw two Ligers - the largest cats in the world - they were massive!!  On Friday, we went to the cardboard boat races, took in another Fishin' Magician show, watched the Firecracker 500 (too bad our ducks didn't win!) and then back up to the square for a few carnival games, a few extra rides and a trip on the Mills train.  Oh, and the kids both got two tattoos too!  Saturday started out a little rough - Peyton got sick a few times so she & I stayed home from the parade and relaxed, played a few games and tried to feel better.  The rest of the clan enjoyed the parade - Garrison had a super time collecting candy and brought it home to share with Peyton (all his idea!).  We had a yummy lunch at home and then while the kids took a rest (Grandpa, too!), Chad & I went out for 18 holes.  It had been a year since I had last played but we had a great time on a beautiful afternoon.  Peyton & Garrison even came out to play with us on the last few holes.  We wrapped-up our visit with dinner at home and then some fun with water balloons!  Sunday morning we were on the road shortly after breakfast - we had a fantastic long weekend!!!!

3.  After a late breakfast / early lunch meal at Prairie Fire, we took in the movie Inside Out at the Cinetopia - our first movie at the new(er) theater.  Of course, we watched the movie in the Living Room with recliners!  What a cute movie!!!  The rest of the afternoon was spent getting things done around the house to get ready for the week.  Needless to say, tonight was an early bedtime for the kids (and probably the adults, too!).

Olde Glory Days was fantastic - the best part was having the Todds here with us for the entire event! The weather was beautiful - can't remember having an OGD weekend when the highs were in the 70's! Amanda described the weekend perfectly. Happy that Peyton wasn't sick very long but sorry she didn't get to go to the parade with us.

Sounds like the movie was a big hit too!

We are so blessed - family memories are the best!
