Weekly Happenings - 7/8 - 7/14

1.  On Friday, Grammy & Grandma Mintun picked the kiddos up at school for a visit as Chad & I were headed to Des Moines for golf & a 5K!  They had a great visit which included Garrison entering the Henry County Fair Baby Show!  Miss Peyton won the 6-9 month baby division several years ago and Mr. Garrison took 2nd in the 18-24 month division this year!  Being one of the older categories meant waiting around for a LONG time.  From what Grammy tells me, he did a great job being patient but was not his normal bubbly self by the time he got on stage.  He is so very proud of his ribbon!!  Congratulations Garrison!

Their afternoon was spent playing with stamps and and lots of water play outside!  On Sunday, everyone went to church and had donuts for breakfast before heading home.  Grammy & Grandpa stayed for a visit - the boys napped while the girls did a little shopping.  Peyton got to pick what we had for dinner - she chose Wil Jenny's (where we had just eaten 4 days prior!) but everyone enjoyed our tasty meal before it was time for Grammy & Grandpa to head home.

2.  While the kiddos enjoyed their visit with Grammy & Grandpa, I had an awesome day with my friend Marla in Des Moines!  Ever since her family moved, I miss seeing her frequently but we sure do have a good time when we are able to spend time together!!  We started our day with the Color Run 5K.  It was a beautiful day for a run, which is really surprising since it is July, but we - along with ~15K of our closest friends! - had a great run through downtown while being doused with water & colored powder along the way.  It was messy but tons of fun!  Check-out our before & after pics.  After our run, we of course needed a shower and then were off for a day of chatting and pampering!  Nails, lunch and massages!  Can't be beat.  After our awesome day, I met-up with Chad to head home.

3.  Funny from Mr. Garrison - he loves for me to sing usually but thinks it is quite hilarious to "shh" me sometimes.  He puts his finger up to his mouth and "shh," always with a big smile on his face!

4.  I hope I don't forget the way Garrison sits so very quietly at times, with his hands so perfectly folded together - priceless.

5.  Peyton is becoming quite the little "fish" this year in the pool.  In the last week, she learned to swim the entire length of the pool.  That's a long way for her to swim but she jumped in at the deep end and made it all the way to the shallow, completely on her own!  She has also started to learn to "dive" down in the water to touch the bottom of the pool.  What a big girl!!

6.  Garrison is getting more and more used to the water too.  He now can be dropped in the water and make his way back to the top.  I hope this never happens to him for real but glad he is figuring out his way back to the top.  Almost time for him to start swim lessons!

What a memorable weekend. Peyton was so excited to see us when we arrived at school to pick them up. She jumped around and had a smile from ear to ear. When we arrived at Garrison's room, he was equally thrilled to run to Grammy's arms - warmed my heart for sure. Brings tears to my eyes even now while I type this!

We had a good evening Friday. Peyton has decided she is a big girl now and wanted to take a shower instead of a bath which was fine. She did a great job. She said she learned from Whitney! Garrison always loves his baths and playing with the duckies, bucket, etc. They both slept well.

Saturday morning after breakfast, Grammaw and I took the kids to the Benson Center for the Henry County Fair Baby Show - Grandpa was playing golf in a tournament and missed out. If Garrison had smiled like he is in the pic with his ribbon, he would have won! By the time we got on stage, he was done. He had been sitting for 1 1/2 hours waiting his turn - which he and Peyton both did well - but.....it was a long time. We were all proud of his ribbon, and he is a winner! The cutest one there in Grammy's eyes of course of all ages!

The kids loved playing outside on the slide and in the pool - combined at times. Garrison especially loved the splash at the end when he would slide into the water and laugh. Peyton used some of her gymnastic skills on the slide before going down into the water. It was fun for all and a beautiful afternoon to be outside - not too hot and no humidity.

Lots of fun activities as Amanda described, and we had a great time in Overland Park with all of them on Sunday. Peyton wore her "new" sunglasses on her head while in the store like her Mommy and looked exactly like a mini-Amanda. Many folks commented this weekend at the Benson Center and Church that Peyton reminds them so much of Amanda when she was that age.

Glad the big kids had a good time in Iowa - I'm sure time with Marla was priceless. I miss her too.

Precious family times.

Amanda - Garrison doesn't shhhh me when I sing to him - ha ha. That is very cute, and I know he thinks it is funny to shhh you get your reaction. He's a teaser.

Also, he looked cute in the outfit he wore, but it wasn't my first choice. I had a very cute button up, collared shirt and matching t-shirt for him to wear to the baby show, but he refused.

Independent little people!
