Weekly Happenings - 8/21-8/27

Taking a tip from several of my friends who blog I am going to give something new a try - a weekly happenings list. Life with two kiddos is definitely more crazy than with one so updating the blog as frequently as I used to just isn't happening so my new goal is to update once a week with a listing of the top things that have happened in our life over the last week. Who knows - sometimes the list may be as short as 2-3 and other weeks 10 or more - only time will tell!

So here goes, the first Weekly Happenings list! :)

1. Garrison turned 4 weeks old on Friday - it sure feels impossible that Garrison has been with us almost a month now, though I can't really remember what life was like without him anymore!

2. On Tuesday I had a bit of a rough day - Chad knew just the way to perk me up and brought me some beautiful flowers. He is an AWESOME husband and daddy!

3. Peyton has started requesting that Garrison lay down with her while we sing songs and say our prayer at bedtime after stories. Completely unprompted, Peyton grabbed Garrison's hands at prayer time and began reciting her bedtime prayer. When she was done she looked at me and said "I help Garrison pray." Wow - way to go big sister (and what a way to melt this Mommy's heart!!!).

4. We have had a great time playing outside with all of our neighborhood friends all summer long and I'm quite sure Peyton will miss playing with her friends when it starts getting dark at 5 :(. Recently she has even requested that her friends have snack with her before the go home - this week Noelle & Parker stayed for a popsicle snack, perfect for a hot summer evening!!

5. Since I am home on maternity leave, my mom (Grammy) has been coming up to help me with things around the house (lifesaver!) and visit - this week Grandma decided to join the trip and she had a great time "visiting" with Garrison. This week, Grammy, Garrison & I even snuck away for lunch at Olive Garden (yum!) and ran a few errands - always nice to get out of the house for a little bit!

6. Friday marked the Chiefs' third pre-season game. They may not have won the game but I think this Daddy - Son combo sure enjoyed the game, well, Daddy enjoyed the game while Garrison enjoyed a nap! :)

7. Peyton LOVES her big brother, so much it hurts sometimes as Daddy likes to say! I just loved this picture!

8. This weekend Daddy played in the Golf Channel Amateur Tour City Championship on Saturday and Sunday. He didn't bring home the trophy this year (as he did last year) but he did have a good time playing and even broke 90 for the second (I think) time this season!

While Daddy was playing golf we stayed busy around home - Saturday Grammy came up to visit and we headed to Cheddar's for lunch followed by a trip to the mall - Peyton had a ball!! We wrapped-up the day with a visit to the dance school next to Peyton's daycare where she is going to try-out taking dance classes. She was quite excited at the time but not as sure this morning - only time will tell if she decides she wants to get started with dance. On Sunday, Grandma Mintun & Grandpa joined the party as did Uncle Merle, Aunt Debbie & Emily - we enjoyed all of our visitors!!

9. We headed to the pool for what may be the last time last week and Peyton had a great time. Peyton now loves jumping into her ring in the pool and told me "Mommy, I got it, swim away." I'm so thankful she is getting more adventuresome and wanting to do things on her own but it shows me how much my baby girl has grown up - very mixed emotions here!!

So many wonderful memories being made - and a great way to capture them on this blog - so happy you take the time to do this Amanda - I know you are so busy with a new baby, etc. Good job.
Grammy is going to miss Amanda's maternity leave as much as Amanda will! It is my pleasure to help a little around the house and with the grandkids - what joys they are! While I was holding Garrison (picture), Peyton crawled up and wanted to sit on the other knee - so sweet. We had such a good time running around, having lunch, going to her dance school open house, etc. - I hope it was helpful to Amanda to have me along to juggle the kids, stroller, etc. We're all adjusting to having two now getting in and out of the vehicle. Peyton and I took a Grammy/Granddaughter trip to Quick Trip on Sunday morning for donuts and chocolate hot (hot chocolate to most, ha ha) - watching her get her own donuts out of the case using the waxed paper and putting them in the box made me realize how fast children grow up. She talked non-stop on our trip - it is so amazing to actually have conversations with her now. Fun times. She still likes being with me sometimes just by herself, which I love. Garrison is filling out and changing every day - what a cutie and such a sweet, good baby. God has blessed our family so much - I'm one fortunate Mom and Grammy.
