Weekly Happenings - 10/6 - 10/12

1.  On Thursday, Peyton had her first Daisy Scouts meeting!  She is super excited to get started and can't wait for her uniform to get here and to go to her next meeting!

2.  We had a pretty crazy week but it ended better than most with a mini-vacation!!  Peyton had Friday off of school so we took the opportunity to have a long-weekend stay-cation of sorts!  Friday  morning we started with breakfast out at First Watch and then we drove toward downtown and made a visit to the Nelson Atkins Art Museum.  It had been years since I have been and Chad's first visit, along with the kids!  The kids struggled a bit at first realizing they couldn't touch this art but we found a few things that helped them get excited about the art - workbooks with games/activities associated with the art and a contemporary art exhibit which included a camera that displayed their picture (probably the favorite!).  Too bad it was too rainy to visit the sculpture art outside - pretty sure that would have been a fan favorite too.

Next-up we made our way to Great Wolf Lodge for our 2nd annual visit.  The kids were SUPER excited to spend time at the pool!  We swam & played for over 3 hours in the afternoon.  Peyton rode every slide she was tall enough for and couldn't get enough.  There are two slides that are next to each other that you go down without a raft - Peyton likes to race Mommy & Daddy down those slides and she is super fast.  Garrison loved the big raft slides with Mommy & Daddy and loved playing in the big pool by jumping in over and over again.  We then wrapped-up our day with a visit to T-Rex for dinner.

On Saturday, the kids were up super early so we went to get donuts for a breakfast snack.  Once we were all up and ready, we started to make our way to Worlds of Fun for the day!  We rode a ton of rides - Camp Snoopy is the best but we also had fun riding a few others - the Scrambler (for Daddy & Peyton at least!), Flying Dutchman and the old-time cars the kids got to help us drive.  It was so fun to see the kids enjoying the rides and we had so much fun!!!  Garrison defeintly looks up to his sister and even if he was scared initially, if he saw Peyton excited on the ride, he would laugh too!  There was one ride, though, that Peyton got to the seat he wanted first.  He shot her (and us!) some dirty looks during that ride since he wasn't where he wanted to be and had to ride again, on the motorcycle the 2nd time around.  Hilarious!  After a fun day, Garrison was wiped and fell asleep as we were walking out of the park.  When we got back to the hotel, we grabbed an early dinner and spent the rest of the night swimming.  The highlight this night was playing on the snake in the big pool where they could fall off of it into the water.

Sunday morning didn't start quite as early (for which we were very thankful!) but we had plenty of time to enjoy a yummy breakfast buffet before the pool opened.  The kids also had a fun time walking around the resort using their new wants to complete tasks and collect rewards from the treasure chests.  When the pool opened we enjoyed several more hours of fun pool time before it was time to head home and regroup for the week ahead.  What a fun time we had!!!!

3.  While we were away, the Royals were busy playing the first two games of the ALCS championship - and they won - BOTH GAMES!  It was hilarious on Saturday - the game was on while we were down at the pool and several were gathered around one of the cabanas trying to catch the end of the game.  The kids have loved cheering on their Royals!
